RC Cebu Port Centre Outreach at Abtanan sa Kaluoy: A Day of Compassion, Connection, and Community Service

It was a heartwarming and joy-filled day for the Rotary Club of Cebu Port Centre (RCCPC) as we conducted an outreach activity at Abtanan sa Kaluoy (Oasis of Mercy)—a shelter that currently cares for 60 children and 26 elders.

This meaningful activity was made possible through the kind invitation of Past District Governor Tony Ynoc and Spouse Gloria, who were instrumental in the organizing and supervision of the three-storey building’s construction—a project made possible by funds awarded by the Vatican through the Diocese of Cebu as part of the successful hosting of the 2017 International Eucharistic Congress.

Spearheaded by the RCCPC Spouses, led by Spouse Sharon Ong, wife of Club President Francis Walter Ong, and joined by RCCPC members, the group came bearing sacks of rice, food packs, toys, milk, and vitamins for the residents.

The outreach was filled with laughter, songs, dances, and joyful games, with everyone sharing in the spirit of love and unity. The group was warmly welcomed by Fr. Pat Ornopia, creating an atmosphere of kinship and gratitude.

This endeavor is a shining example of Rotary’s guiding principle: “Service Above Self” and this year’s theme: “Unite for Good.” Through collective generosity and purpose, we continue to uplift lives and bring hope where it’s needed most.
