A Promise Made, A Promise Fulfilled

What once stood as a reminder of devastation after the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Bogo City has now been transformed into a place of hope, learning, and renewed dreams.

This morning, the Rotary Club of Cebu Port Centre, led by President Francis Walter Ong, together with dedicated Rotarians and in meaningful partnership with NutsRV Philippines, Inc. headed by Yuki Kita, journeyed nearly three hours to Barangay Calambua, San Remigio, not just to visit, but to fulfill a commitment.

The turnover of the newly renovated Barangay Calambua Day Care Center is more than a completed project. It is a living expression of Rotary in action, directly addressing one of its core areas of focus: Basic Education & Literacy. From damaged walls to a restored space filled with light, from empty rooms to classrooms now equipped with tables and chairs, this initiative creates a safe and inspiring environment where young minds can learn, grow, and dream again.

The smiles of the children, the gratitude in the voices of their leaders, and the warmth of the community remind us why we serve.

When Barangay Captain Crinita “Tata” Ornopia shared her heartfelt thanks, it echoed a deeper truth: that when resources fall short, partnership steps in. When challenges arise, service answers.

Guided by faith through the blessing led by Fr. Bernardo Oyao, and strengthened by the words of appreciation from community leaders, Rotarians, and partners, today became a celebration, not just of a structure rebuilt, but of futures being restored through education.

Indeed, this is what “Service Above Self” looks like.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about rebuilding classrooms, it’s about nurturing minds, empowering communities, and building a brighter future through education and literacy, one child at a time.
