Zumba Kontra Polio: A Zumba Costume for a Cause

The Rotary Club of Baras and the Rotaract Club of Baras once again brought the community together through “Zumba Kontra Polio: A Zumba Costume for a Cause,” a vibrant and meaningful activity held at the Municipal Gymnasium of Baras, Rizal. The event combined fitness, creativity, and compassion—uniting participants to dance for health, move for awareness, and support Rotary’s global campaign to end polio. It was a colorful celebration of unity, service, and community engagement that perfectly captured the spirit of Rotary.

In line with the observance of World Polio Day, the event emphasized Rotary’s unwavering mission to eradicate polio through vaccination, education, and collaboration. Dra. Marianne Michelle de la Rosa–Geronimo conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) session about Polio, raising awareness among non-Rotarian participants about the importance of vaccination and disease prevention. Her discussion helped deepen understanding of the cause, inspiring attendees to actively support Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign through continued advocacy and participation.

What made the activity even more remarkable was the camaraderie between the Rotary and Rotaract Club of Baras members, who had a blast exchanging insights, ideas, and laughter while organizing and leading the event. Their teamwork exemplified the true Rotary spirit—service above self with joy, collaboration, and shared purpose. The partnership between both clubs demonstrated that when people work together with passion, even simple initiatives can create meaningful change.

Participants came in creative and colorful Zumba costumes—ranging from sporty to themed outfits that radiated enthusiasm and positivity. Many expressed their appreciation for the event, noting how a simple ticket purchase allowed them to help fight polio globally while enjoying a fun-filled afternoon. The inclusion of raffle prizes, polio bags, and giveaways made the experience even more memorable, turning a charitable cause into a joyful community celebration.

Ultimately, Zumba Kontra Polio: A Zumba Costume for a Cause was not just about fitness—it was about awareness, education, and compassion in action. Every dance step, every ticket, and every smile contributed to Rotary’s mission of a polio-free world. With the continued efforts of the Rotary and Rotaract Club of Baras, the fight against polio remains strong—proving that together, we can make global change through local acts of kindness, one beat at a time.
