WASH for All: Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo Leads Women’s Month Sanitation Drive in Cabugao

On March 20, 2026, the Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo (RCMK) teamed up with our strategic partners, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Aklan, along with the Rotaract Club of Metro Kalibo and Red Cross Youth (RCY) Council, to celebrate Women’s Month in Barangay Cabugao, Batan, Aklan.

In response to two of Rotary International's Areas of Focus—Water Access, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and Disease Prevention and Treatment—the club donated seven (7) toilet bowls to households identified previously by the Barangay council members, led by Punong Barangay Ethel Iman.

Also, as part of this initiative, led by RCY Aklan, we conducted a handwashing demonstration to Cabugao Day Care Development Center children, and distributed 60 packs of soap, generously provided by our WASH partner, Soap Cycling Philippines. Each pupil and parents present at the venue received a pack as well.

The provision of essential hygiene resources like toilet bowls and soap will improve sanitation and public health. This initiative helps prevent waterborne diseases, enhances community health standards, and empowers residents with hygiene education through handwashing demonstrations. It fosters dignity and pride among recipients, too.

Additionally, these efforts align with World Water Day in support to global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by promoting access to clean water and sanitation for a sustainable community.
