Threads of Tradition, Taste of Triumph: RCSFLU Honored at the Abel and Basi Awards

Celebrating the vibrant spirit of La Union’s heritage and excellence, the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU) proudly joined the Abel and Basi Awards on October 21, 2025, a day dedicated to honoring outstanding individuals and organizations that have made a mark in various fields of leadership, service, and innovation.

In this year’s ceremony, Past Presidents Gabby and Sherwin were among the esteemed recipients, recognized for their exemplary contributions and enduring commitment to community service under the Rotary banner. Their recognition was not just a personal achievement, but a collective triumph for RCSFLU—proof that Rotary leadership continues to inspire positive change both within and beyond the club. Meanwhile, DGE Ronald Dy represented the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. and Rtn. Rem Bonifacio represented the Chamber of Real Estate and Builder’s Association.

The Abel and Basi Awards, named after La Union’s celebrated handwoven fabric abel and the locally crafted sugarcane wine basi, stand as symbols of creativity, resilience, and cultural pride. The recognition of Rotarians among its honorees reflects the harmony between tradition and progress—values deeply rooted in Rotary’s mission to strengthen communities and promote peace.

RCSFLU continues to champion excellence and collaboration, aligning with Rotary’s Areas of Focus on Community Economic Development and Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, by recognizing and supporting those who uplift livelihoods, preserve culture, and foster unity. The event also echoed Basic Education and Literacy, as awardees serve as living examples and mentors for younger generations striving to make a difference.
