The Blind Gardener Rotary Community Corps trains coop sighted members in rug, potholder making
After their successful livelihood training workshop on rug, pot holder making to NSTP students in Baguio City, the Blind Gardener Rotary Community Corps also conducted a similar activity to members of a cooperative in Baguio City.
The blind group led by adviser Ruby Gunn was chosen to train some members of Baguio-Benguet Community Credit Cooperative (BBCCC), mostly women in foot rug and potholder craftsmanship as part of their community development program.
“Ang nagtraining po ay iyong mga visually impaired na members po ng corps at sila po ang nag-train sa mga sighted so nag-iba na po ang dynamics ng mundo. Used to be, the sighted trains the visually impaired ngayon po kaming mga visually impaired ang nagtratrain sa kanila,” Gunn proudly said.
The training-workshop gave joy and satisfaction to participants and deep sense of accomplishment to the corps members who are all from Baguio and Benguet.
“It’s very surreal na kami na po ang hinihingan ng tulong para magtrain sa mga sighted. Nakakataba rin po ng puso,” Gunn added.
She also underscored the importance of this livelihood program of the corps which also encourages teamwork among all members.
Meanwhile, producing rugs and pot holders will now be easier for the blind group through the help of SK Camdas who volunteered to sort the used clothes, the main rug-crafting material according to its color.
The next batch of volunteer NSTP students will be in charge of cutting the said materials.
The Blind Gardener Rotary Community Corps under the Rotary Club of Creative City Baguio was recently recognized in Rotary International District 3790 Year-End Review for its outstanding efforts in uplifting the lives of the blind community through its impactful and sustainable livelihood programs.
