The Blind Gardener Rotary Community Corps joins in Cordillera Month Celebration
For successive weeks on the month of July the Blind Gardener Rotary Community Corps has conducted activities involving the sighted National Service Training Program or NSTP students from universities in Baguio City in their sustainable livelihood program activities.
The highlight was the livelihood training workshop for the NSTP students from University of the Cordilleras and Saint Louis University on Cordillera Day on July 15, 2026.
The group’s adviser Ruby Gunn said the activity is their way of reaffirming that they are proud Cordillerans.
“We celebrated Cordillera Day with our members who are all Cordillerans to make it more significant and to reaffirm that we are proud to be Cordillerans,” she said.
BGRCC taught the students how to make foot rugs and pot holders in the workshop conducted at Camdas Barangay Multi-purpose Hall and supported by Barangay Captain Jeanette Floresca.
The activity was also another opportunity for the blind members to learn more about the handicraft livelihood project.
Since its birth in October of 2024, the group sponsored by the Rotary Club of Creative City Baguio has ventured to several projects and trainings empowering the visually impaired in Baguio City and Benguet.
The group started to make a name through its organic urban gardening, a concept which started by Gunn during the pandemic.
Then they venture to handicrafts livelihood projects such as foot rug using used clothes; jars, center table, & coin bank made of old magazine; basket; macrame, and more.
With the support of RCCCB, the Rotary Community Corps District 3790 through Rotary Year 2025-2026 Chair Past Virgil Garcia and Jeraz Credit Coop headed by General Manager Gino Jimenez, the Corps was able to expand its livelihood programs.
From urban gardening to the table, the group has ventured into chicken eggs production and pickled egg processing among others.
