Rotary Project Walk @18 Empowers PWD Community

Mobility isn’t just about movement, it’s about reclaimed independence. This was the driving force behind Rotary Project Walk @18, a celebration and collaborative mission that recently brought life-altering prosthetic support to residents in Aklan and neighboring provinces.

The initiative was led by Rotary Metro Kalibo (D3850), fueled by the generous financial backing of the Rotary Club of Forbes Park (D3830) and Walk Now Center, Inc. Together, these primary benefactors ensured that the high cost of prosthetic limbs would not be a barrier to those seeking a new lease on life.

The event served as a critical hub for both new and returning beneficiaries. The process included - individual assessment, professional evaluations of physical needs, precision measurement, ensuring each prosthesis is custom-fitted for maximum comfort and functionality, including long-term support through follow-ups for returning patients to ensure continued mobility.

The reach of the project extended beyond Aklan, thanks to a united strenght network with the Rotary Club of Roxas and Rotary Club Metro Roxas, they played a vital role by transporting and facilitating patients from Roxas City to ensure they didn't miss this opportunity. We also welcomed in this batch three new recipients from Negros Occidental.

A total of 26 recipients (children and adult) were assured to walk free in the next months.

The success of the day was bolstered by a diverse group of local benefactors and partners - Infant Jesus Academy, StrongerHerFitness (USA), the Rotaract Club of Metro Kalibo, and media partners - Akeanon News, Kalibo Cable TV Network, and Love Radio Kalibo

"By bringing together resources, expertise, and compassion, the initiative continues to open doors for persons with disabilities, empowering them to take confident steps toward a brighter future," PP Megs shared (Walk Now Center Executive Director).

Rotary Project Walk stands as a testament to what is possible when a community decides that no one should be left behind.
