Rotary Community Corps of Marikina West: Answering the Call to Serve

The journey of the Rotary Community Corps of Marikina West (RCC Marikina West) is an endearing story of lasting friendship, camaraderie, and the common goal of helping others.

Originally chartered on November 11, 2010, the group started to work on community service projects on their own or collaboratively with their sponsor club, the Rotary Club of Marikina West.  For some reason, RI did not provide a certificate on their formal organization. This could be the years when RI was moving their databases and upgrading their systems.

During RY 2013-2014, a form was submitted to RI and informed them of the RCC's officers and directors.  This time a formal charter certificate was provided and reflected in the RI database with a charter date of February 13, 2014.

Rotary Club Central currently shows two existing records for the same RCC but is working to remove one of the entries from its records. Despite the administrative concern, this did not hinder them to continue with their community service works because they wanted to help others.

The original members in 2010, who were high school classmates of Past President Bojie Bernardino from Quirino High School Batch '77, had stayed close friends over the years and found a renewed mission not just in attending reunions but especially in community service.  Throughout the years, membership has diversified.  Guided and supported by the Rotary Club of Marikina West, members embraced Rotary’s motto of "Service Above Self".

Over the years, RCC Marikina West has been an unwavering and quiet contributor to many humanitarian projects such as visiting the Home for the Aged and caring for the elderly, various tree planting projects, donation of school supplies in various schools in Marikina City, and many more.

For RY 2025-2026, RCC Marikina West had their orientation and oath-taking of officers and directors on February 9, 2026 administered by District RCC Chair Genna Santos supported by Zone Coordinator/PP Paeng Arellano, PP Gene Arabit, and PP Jerome Antiporda.

RCCMW is led this Rotary Year by Good President Nelia Regina Cerdena.

From a group of former classmates to an official Rotary Community Corps, the tale of RCC Marikina West exemplifies common past as a key towards perpetuating common purpose. RCC Marikina West continues to demonstrate the manner how service is performed to prove that when friendship becomes a cause, a community thrives.

Indeed, RCC Marikina West has thrived for 15 years and is still growing stronger.
