March 15, 2025, Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro – In a groundbreaking collaboration, Rotary Club Jose Abad Santos Manila and Rotary Club Lubang Island have joined forces to launch an ambitious community development initiative on Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro. This transformative project, co-hosted by RC Jose Abad Santos Manila with RC Lubang Island as the lead club, aims to address the pressing needs of the community through Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus.
The event, which took place amid the island’s lush landscapes and vibrant community spirit, was a resounding success. It featured a series of impactful activities designed to uplift the lives of Lubang Island residents, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.
1. Peace Building and Conflict Prevention:
In a region where geopolitical tensions often loom large, the initiative kicked off with a powerful session on peacebuilding and conflict prevention. Residents engaged in discussions about the West Philippine Sea, gaining valuable insights and legal consultation to better understand their rights and responsibilities.
2. Disease Prevention and Treatment:
Healthcare took center stage as medical and dental professionals provided much-needed consultations and treatments. The community’s health and well-being received a significant boost through these efforts.
3. Water Sanitation and Hygiene:
Addressing essential needs, the project included the installation of two trash bins and the turnover of a concrete tiled wash area, promoting better hygiene and sanitation practices for all residents.
4. Maternal and Children’s Health:
Mothers and children were treated to a nutritious feeding program and a comprehensive nutrition seminar, equipping them with the knowledge to lead healthier lives.
5. Basic Education and Literacy:
The future of Lubang Island looks brighter with the donation of computers, printers, and books, enhancing educational resources and opportunities for local students.
6. Community Economic Development:
Empowering the local economy, the initiative introduced a seeds distribution program, “Halamang sa Barangay,” alongside a career orientation seminar, paving the way for sustainable community growth.
7. Supporting the Environment:
Environmental stewardship took the spotlight with a coastal cleanup and tree-planting activity, reinforcing the community’s commitment to preserving their natural surroundings for future generations.
This extraordinary collaboration between Rotary clubs from District 3810 has not only brought tangible benefits to Lubang Island but also showcased the power of collective action in driving positive change.
