Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union: Unite for Good in Building Hope, Changing Lives and Transforming Communities

In every community, there are stories of hope waiting to be told—stories of people who choose to act, to lead, and to serve. This Rotary Year 2025–2026, the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union has emerged as a beacon of transformative service, elevating its commitment to new heights through inclusive, sustainable, and life-changing initiatives.

Guided by the Seven Areas of Focus of Rotary International, RCSFLU’s projects reflect more than just outreach—they embody unity in action, compassion in motion, and leadership with purpose. Each initiative is a testament to how collective effort can create lasting impact.

A Powerful Beginning: Handog sa Kabataan

The year began with a vibrant expression of service through Handog sa Kabataan, a 7-in-1 kickoff project at Sibuan-otong Integrated School. In partnership with the Inner Wheel Club of San Fernando La Union and Rotakids, the initiative reached around 100 learners, parents, and teachers.

The project seamlessly integrated health, education, environment, and peacebuilding. From milk-feeding and gardening activities to hygiene education and school supply distribution, every component addressed a vital need. The anti-bullying campaign, “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully,” instilled values of respect and inclusion, while the culminating Share-A-Meal symbolized unity—setting the tone for a year rooted in compassion.

Extending Compassion: Unite for Isa Solomon

In Barangay Pugo, Bauang, RCSFLU brought hope to Solomon Island through the Unite for Isa Solomon project. This 7-in-1 outreach combined essential services—medical care, food distribution, and educational support—with environmental action through coastal cleanups.

Beyond physical aid, the project nurtured the social fabric of the community. A Family Matters session emphasized communication and shared values, reminding participants that strong communities begin with strong families.

Empowering Communities: Kusinang Pangkabuhayan

A defining milestone for RCSFLU was the turnover of Kusinang Pangkabuhayan to RCC Namtutan—the first Rotary Community Corps in the world. More than a facility, this “Kitchen of Hope” is a symbol of empowerment.

Here, community members gain opportunities to learn culinary skills, build livelihood, and generate income. It transforms service into sustainability, ensuring that impact continues long after the project’s completion.

Investing in the Future: Financial Literacy for the Youth

At the Saint Louis College Gymnasium, RCSFLU gathered over 2,000 young minds for the Estudyante, Negosyante Financial Literacy Seminar, featuring renowned speaker Chinkee Tan.

The message was clear: financial literacy is a life skill. By equipping students and young professionals with knowledge on saving, investing, and entrepreneurship, RCSFLU empowers the next generation to build not just wealth—but purpose-driven futures.

Healing Through Creativity: Rhymes of Hope

Through Rhymes of Hope, RCSFLU reached out to youth at the DSWD Regional Rehabilitation Center. By donating musical instruments, the club provided a platform for healing and self-expression.

Music became more than sound—it became a second chance. In every note played, there is a story of transformation, proving that empathy can open doors to new beginnings.

Restoring Dignity: Unite for Hope Wheelchair Project

Through its ongoing Unite for Hope project, RCSFLU continues to restore dignity and independence to individuals with mobility challenges in the City of San Fernando in partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP). Each wheelchair distributed represents more than assistance—it is freedom, inclusion, and renewed confidence.

Building Safer Schools: Be a Buddy, Not a Bully

In partnership with the Philippine National Police, RCSFLU brought its anti-bullying advocacy to Pao Norte Elementary School. Over 120 students learned the value of empathy, respect, and kindness.

By combining awareness with action, the project reinforces that peacebuilding starts in classrooms—and with the choices of every child.

Riding the Waves of Inclusion: Kids Dream Surf 2025

At Urbiztondo Beach in San Juan La Union, RCSFLU supported Kids Dream Surf 2025, an inclusive surf therapy event for neurodivergent children.

With over 160 participants, including 72 differently-abled children, the event showcased the power of inclusion. On the waves, limitations disappeared—replaced by joy, courage, and freedom.

Responding to Crisis: Typhoon Emong Relief Efforts

In the aftermath of Typhoon Emong, RCSFLU responded swiftly, assisting 884 displaced residents across evacuation centers. Through food, medicine, and sleeping mat distribution—and the activation of the Water for Life project—the club ensured access to safe drinking water.Recognized by media outlets and local government, this effort underscores Rotary’s role not just in service—but in resilience and recovery.

Promoting Safety: Pulis Signage Project

On October 24, 2025, under the leadership of Alvin Ray Mari Dumuk, RCSFLU turned over the first of nine Pulis Signages to the San Fernando City Police Station. This initiative enhances police visibility and promotes peacebuilding—demonstrating that safe communities are essential for sustainable development.

Delivering Life-Changing Healthcare

Through Panagkaykaysa Para Iti Salun-at and the massive 59-in-1 Medical and Dental Mission, RCSFLU delivered comprehensive healthcare services to thousands of residents of City of San Fernando as well as nearby municipalities of Bauang and San Juan, La Union.

In collaboration with institutions such as the  Friends Who Care (USA),  Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), and ManilaMed Hospital; the missions provided consultations, diagnostics, surgeries, and life-saving treatments—bridging healthcare gaps for underserved communities.

Growing Sustainability: Hydroponics Farm Initiative

RCSFLU’s hydroponics farm project in RCC Abut represents a forward-thinking approach to food security and climate resilience. Launched with the support of District Governor Danilo "Dan" Philip Torres, the initiative equips communities with sustainable farming techniques. With its continuous harvests supplying local restaurants and artisans in Urbiztondo, the project proves that innovation can nourish both people and livelihoods.

A Legacy of Service

From classrooms to coastlines, from kitchens to clinics, the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union has woven a tapestry of service that touches lives in meaningful and lasting ways.

Each initiative reflects a deeper truth: that real change happens when people come together—not just to help, but to empower; not just to give, but to uplift.

In this Rotary year, RCSFLU does more than serve—it inspires. And in doing so, it truly lives its mission: to unite for good in building hope, changing lives and transforming communities.
