The Rotary Club of Creative City Baguio empowers more than 200 students, faculty, and parents in Tuba Central School in Barangay Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet through its "I Am Empowered Program."
From its kick-off in Baguio City, the club headed by President Alah Soledad Sungduan brought the literacy & Youth Empowerment and Community Development Seminar/Workshop program in the said school on March 23, 2026.
Students from grades 1-6 learned basic strategies to stay secure at school and in public spaces through the lecture of RCCCB Director Arnel Briones dubbed "Be Smart, Be Alert, Stay Safe."
Meanwhile, RCCCB President-Elect Retired Colonel Samson Amistad stressed on the salient points on Anti-Bullying Law on his topic “Stand Strong: Safety Awareness.”
In a breakout session, the school faculty and staff learned more about “Urban Gardening: How to Grow” through the Blind Gardener of Baguio City and RCCCB Director Ruby Lee Gunn’s workshop.
The club also donated kalunay, pechay, and cherry tomatoes seeds including plants such as trailing ube, onions and strawberries for the school garden project.
The attendees also learned more information and skills on how to integrate innovation into teaching through the lecture of University of the Cordilleras Professor Janice A. Calugan, MAESL entitled "Practical AI Tools for Daily Instruction."
Moreover, the club with Past President Jerry Chan, Immediate Past President Olay Sungduan, and Rotarian Tanisha Amistad also distributed brand new school bags and lunch boxes with water bottle to at least 60 students from grades 1-6 listed by the school. This is in partnership with Marife Cadag, Marjorie Akistoy, and Myrna Salda Epi who are all based abroad.
A Rotary kitchen was also set up at the school which provided the students and their parents a nutritious hot chicken porridge.
The implementation of “I Am Empowered Program” was made possible through the support of school principal Noemi Mary Lenneng.
“We we’re empowered! Sabi nga dito sa Tarp which says “I Am Empowered” because some of our learners, teachers, and even our parents were given lectures on the different topics from our resource speakers. So, thank you very much,” Lenneng said.
The School PTA President Sarah Jane Sal-ongan and school coordinator Agnes Aquilino also supported the program.
