Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris Supports “Light the World Giving Machine” in Cebu

The hum of activity at The Mall – NUSTAR Cebu carried an energy that was both festive and purposeful. Shiny machines, stocked with charitable items, gleamed under the bright lights, each promising a small act that could ripple into meaningful change. On November 28, 2025, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM) joined the global launch of the Light the World Giving Machine, an innovative initiative turning everyday acts of giving into tangible support for communities in need.

Representatives from RCCGM, including PDG Lilu Aliño, President Roxene Rosario, and Rotarian Ludy Demecillo, attended the launch with enthusiasm and pride. They were among civic leaders and community volunteers witnessing a unique way to inspire compassion through simple, interactive action. With each coin inserted, each item dispensed, a life could be touched, a need could be met, and a chain of generosity could begin.

“Moments like these remind us of the power of collective giving and the importance of compassion in action,” said President Roxene Rosario, capturing the spirit of the event. The machines offered a tangible experience of Rotary’s ethos: service above self, rendered simple yet profound. Children and families alike lined up, inserting donations and retrieving symbolic tokens, each small gesture a reminder that philanthropy is as much about awareness as it is about aid.

Inside the venue, the vibrant display of charity vending machines became more than a novelty—it was a stage for civic engagement. The crowd buzzed with curiosity as attendees explored the machines, learning how their contributions could provide meals, education, or basic necessities to underserved communities.

For the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris, participation went beyond presence—it was a reaffirmation that creative approaches to service can inspire new generations to embrace generosity.

This initiative aligns closely with Rotary International’s Areas of Focus, specifically:

  • Basic Education and Literacy: By supporting programs that provide resources for learning, RCCGM helps bridge gaps in educational access and encourages community awareness about social responsibility.

  • Community Economic Development: Through innovative giving, the project strengthens the capacity of local communities, creating sustainable impact that addresses poverty and inequality.

  • Supporting the Environment: While indirect, the campaign’s emphasis on mindful giving encourages thoughtful consumption and promotes sustainability, reducing waste through purposeful action.

For the all-women Rotary Club, the project resonates deeply. RCCGM has always championed innovation in service, combining creativity, compassion, and hands-on involvement. In a rapidly modernizing Cebu, the club recognizes that engaging communities with forward-thinking tools like the Giving Machine not only delivers immediate aid but fosters a culture of civic responsibility, inspiring youth and families alike to participate in meaningful change.

Attendees witnessed firsthand how small, deliberate actions could translate into significant impact. Children’s eyes lit up as they interacted with the machines, while volunteers explained how each token represented a meal, a school supply, or a life touched.

Through initiatives like this, RCCGM demonstrates that service can be joyful, interactive, and transformative—a lesson in empathy delivered one coin at a time.

As the launch drew to a close, the Rotary members reflected on the broader lesson: meaningful giving doesn’t always require grand gestures; sometimes, it begins with curiosity, engagement, and a simple step toward helping others. In Cebu, a city known for its dynamic spirit, RCCGM’s presence reaffirmed a timeless truth: compassion, when combined with creativity, can light the world—literally and figuratively.
