Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris Joins Rotary Club of Cebu in Celebrating 93 Years of Legacy and Leadership

In the heart of Cebu City, where tradition meets progress, the Rotary Club of Cebu marked another milestone in its storied history. On June 21, 2025, the club held its 93rd Induction and Handover Ceremonies at the prestigious Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, a night filled with legacy, leadership, and the enduring spirit of Rotary.

The grand occasion was not just a celebration of the past but a reaffirmation of Rotary’s vision for the future. It became a living testament to the movement’s resilience, adaptability, and continued relevance in shaping communities for the better.

A Night of Tradition and Fellowship

From the moment Rotarians and guests walked into the ballroom, there was a palpable sense of pride and camaraderie. The venue glowed with elegance—blue and gold tones reflecting both the prestige and the hope carried into the new Rotary year. The gathering was a blend of seasoned leaders and fresh faces, all united by one shared purpose: “Service Above Self.”

Representing the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris were Past District Governor (PDG) Lilu Aliño, Assistant Governor-Elect Christine Tan Ashby, and President Nominee Dorothy Borces. Their presence underscored RCCGM’s commitment to solidarity and fellowship, standing shoulder to shoulder with their fellow Rotarians from across District 3860.

The event was more than just a ceremonial transition of officers; it was a celebration of 93 years of unwavering service. Each speech, each recognition, and each symbolic gesture carried with it a weight of history—an echo of the countless projects, advocacies, and lives touched since the club’s founding in 1932.

The Symbolic Transfer of Leadership

One of the most poignant moments of the evening was the handover ceremony, where outgoing leaders entrusted the gavel, the banner, and the responsibility of stewardship to the incoming officers. This ritual, though simple, was deeply significant. It embodied the principle that leadership in Rotary is not about titles, but about service and the willingness to carry forward a legacy greater than oneself.

As the newly inducted leaders took their oaths, the hall resonated with hope and determination. Their vision was clear: to build upon the foundation laid by their predecessors while innovating for the challenges of today. The future of Rotary Club of Cebu was entrusted to hands both capable and compassionate—leaders ready to embrace the Rotary Year 2025–2026 with vigor.

Generational Service and Unity

The evening also highlighted the unique strength of generational service within Rotary. Veterans of the movement stood proudly beside young professionals, symbolizing a continuity of purpose that transcends age and background. It was a living reminder that Rotary thrives not only because of its rich past but because of its ability to inspire successive generations to serve.

Rotary International has always been about unity in diversity, and this celebration captured that spirit vividly. Clubs across District 3860 stood as one community, proving that while each club has its unique identity, all are bound by the same heartbeat of service.

Looking Forward

For the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris, being part of this momentous evening was more than an honor—it was a call to action. PDG Lilu Aliño, AG Elect Christine Tan Ashby, and PN Dorothy Borces carried home not only memories of the celebration but also renewed inspiration to lead their own club toward impactful service in the months ahead.

As the Rotary Club of Cebu embarks on its 93rd year, the celebration serves as both a capstone and a cornerstone—a culmination of nearly a century of service and a springboard for future endeavors.

The night closed with warm congratulations to the newly inducted leaders of the Rotary Club of Cebu, along with a shared commitment from partner clubs like RCCGM to strengthen collaboration, amplify impact, and embody the Rotary spirit in every project and partnership.

Indeed, the 93rd Induction and Handover Ceremony was more than just an event; it was a powerful reminder that the mission of Rotary is timeless. Through fellowship, service, and unity, Rotarians continue to prove that even after 93 years, the journey has only just begun.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Cebu for 93 years of leadership, legacy, and service—and to the new officers, may your term be filled with purpose and meaningful impact. Together, we live out Service Above Self.
