"Inyong kahimsug, among kalipay"—your hope, our joy—echoed like a Cebuano carol as malnourished children danced under twinkling parols, faces flushed with long-forgotten glee.
On December 17, 2025, the St. Arnold Janssen Child Development Center in Inayawan's humble courtyard pulsed with Christmas magic. Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM) unveiled "Inyong Kahimsug, Among Kalipay," a vibrant celebration under its flagship AMOMA Sa Kaugmaon program, showering malnourished children with joy, hope, and a roadmap to healthier futures. Partnering with VisayasMed Hospital’s Family Medicine residents, the event wove fun into fortitude—proving cheer fuels recovery.
The tale traces to RCCGM's vigilant patrols through Inayawan's narrow alleys, where stunted frames and hollow cheeks stirred maternal fire. Past President Gay Marie Tiu, program lead, rallied the charge. President Roxene Rosario, Secretary Dorothy Borces, and Past President Mita Caballes arrived bearing bounty: colorful gift sacks bulging with toys, books, and nutritious treats—bibingka bites swapped for vitamin packs. Residents in crisp whites led games: sack races sending giggles skyward, pin-the-tail twists on carabao silhouettes, all amid "Pasko Na" refrains and Santa's booming laugh.
Children, once weighed down by malnutrition's shadow, chased balloons with abandon, their laughter a defiant symphony against hunger's grip. Doctors measured smiles alongside growth charts, dispensing deworming kits and nutrition tips tailored for Cebuano pantries—rice fortified with monggo, cheap fruits bursting with vitamins.
Prime Rotary Areas of Focus: Maternal and Child Health (central—combating malnutrition via nutrition/health interventions); Basic Education and Literacy (supportive—through engaging play fostering development). AMOMA Sa Kaugmaon delivers sustained care—monthly weigh-ins, family coaching—slashing stunting rates, building resilient bodies and bright minds for community uplift.
"Hope isn't given; it's kindled—one child's laugh at a time."—Past President Gay Marie Tiu
This burns close to RCCGM's heart: Gloria Maris, pearl of endurance amid Cebu's storms, reflects these girls' quiet battles—hungry yet hopeful, like club members who've risen through trials. All-women powered, their sisterhood sees every nourished child as a daughter; echoing past clinics and school feeds, this event personalizes nurture, turning holiday cheer into lifelong health.
As sun dipped, group hugs lingered under starlit skies. Parents whispered thanks, eyes misty. Gifts exchanged, songs faded into promises. RCCGM didn't stage a party—they sowed seeds of strength, affirming joy as the ultimate healer for tomorrow's Cebu.
