RC San Fernando La Union Rides the Waves of Inclusion at Kids Dream Surf 2025

The Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU) made a splash on September 7, 2025, as it joined this year’s Kids Dream Surf — an annual outreach initiative held at Urbiztondo Beach, San Juan, La Union. Represented by Paolo and President Alvin, the club showed its support for a program that promotes inclusivity, empowerment, and holistic development through the therapeutic power of surfing.

Organized by HealthPro Multi-Specialty Center, in collaboration with local surf clubs, SPED programs, LGUs, and the medical society of the Ilocos Region, Kids Dream Surf 2025 brought together over 160 participants — including 72 differently-abled children, 25 volunteer surfers, and 43 volunteer teachers and therapists. The event offered neurodivergent children a chance to experience the joy of surfing in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.

The beach was transformed into a vibrant, multi-activity venue, with areas for assisted surf sessions, sensory play, motor challenges, arts and crafts, and even inflatable pool fun. Each activity was designed to boost self-confidence, improve physical coordination, and encourage social interaction among children of different abilities.

Parents and caregivers were also engaged through orientation sessions and distribution of Therapy Home Program Kits — practical tools to help continue developmental interventions at home. Awareness materials on disability rights and privileges were also handed out, strengthening community understanding and advocacy for neurodiversity.

RCSFLU’s participation underscored the club’s commitment to Rotary’s Area of Focus on Disease Prevention and Treatment, as well as Community Economic Development, by supporting initiatives that empower children and families to thrive. The event also embodied Rotary’s guiding call to Unite for Good — proving that when organizations, volunteers, and civic leaders work together, they can create spaces where every child feels included and celebrated.

For the children who caught their first wave, and for the families who saw their loved ones shine with confidence, Kids Dream Surf was more than just a day at the beach — it was a day of hope, joy, and empowerment.
