The Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa Central recently conducted a courtesy call at the Office of Mayor Norbert Salvame Lim as part of its reporting on the successful implementation of its health initiative, “Where Life Begins: Ultrasound for Safe Births,” in the Municipality of Taytay, Palawan. During the visit, the Local Government Unit formally presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the club, together with Dra. Genevieve D. Ragay, in recognition of their valuable contribution to improving maternal healthcare services in the community.
The visit served as an opportunity to share the positive outcomes of the program, which provided free ultrasound services to pregnant women in the area. To date, a total of 632 expectant mothers have benefited from the initiative, with several availing of two to three ultrasound sessions to closely monitor their pregnancy conditions.
Through this program, various pregnancy-related conditions and complications were identified at an early stage, including multiple pregnancies, breech presentations, placental concerns, and cases where fetal heartbeat was no longer detectable. Because of timely screening, patients were immediately referred to appropriate medical facilities, given proper guidance, and better prepared for safe delivery.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between civic organizations and local government units in expanding access to essential healthcare services, particularly in remote and underserved communities. The municipal government expressed its full support for future health programs that prioritize the welfare of mothers and children.
This initiative stands as a strong testament to the importance of accessible and proactive healthcare for mothers and infants. With the support of the Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa Central and the Local Government of Taytay, the campaign for safe and well-managed pregnancies in Palawan continues to strengthen—creating a healthier community and a safer future for every Taytayeño family.
