RC Luntiang Maynila Prime fights dengue through community action

On a bright and hopeful November 30, 2024, the residents of Parklane Homes, Phase 1, General Trias, Cavite, gathered with a shared purpose that resonated through the neighborhood: to combat the looming threat of dengue fever. The initiative, titled "Let's Fight Dengue," aimed at cleaning the surrounding areas and declogging the drainage system, a persistent problem that had been a breeding ground for the Aedes mosquitoes.

Under the leadership of Celo Moral, the President of the Parklane Phase 1 Homeowners Association (HOA), the event was meticulously planned. His unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of the community was evident as he rallied support from local volunteers and organizations. With him stood Evelyn Rosco, the President of the Rotary Community Corps- PH Connect, who had dedicated her time and resources to ensure the day would not only be successful but also meaningful.

As the sun rose higher in the sky, the participants arrived with tools in hand, armed with gloves, garbage bags, and an indomitable spirit.

Celo, with his contagious enthusiasm, addressed the crowd, reminding them of the importance of their actions and how their collective effort would make a difference in their community. “Today, we’re not just cleaning; we’re protecting our families and our future,” he declared, igniting a spark of motivation among the volunteers.

The partnership between the Parklane HOA and diverse groups was palpable throughout the day. Elberto Regis, the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Luntiang Maynila Prime, had sent his representatives, led by Club Secretary PP Arnil Señoron, to lend their support. Together with the GTGBI Eagles Chapter, led by the dynamic RMG William "Warrior" Bacani, they formed teams that spread out across the neighborhood—armed with determination and a vision of a cleaner, healthier environment.

As volunteers dove into the task, the air was filled with laughter and camaraderie. They cleared debris, removed stagnant water, and scrubbed the drainage systems. The infectious laughter of children playing nearby served as a reminder of why they were working so hard; preserving the health of the community for future generations was at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

Among the volunteers, the enlisted personnel and civilian officers of the Philippine Army Reserve Command were also present, under the supervision of Major Artemio J Alosada, the 402nd CDC Director, ensuring that the operation was organized and effective. Their presence not only added manpower but also instilled a sense of pride and unity within the community.

As the day progressed, the transformation of Parklane Homes became evident. Where there were once piles of refuse and obstructed water flow, there were now clean paths and unclogged drains. The collective effort shone brightly, and even the sun seemed to smile down on them, as though the Almighty was blessing their endeavors.

Finally, as the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow over the neighborhood, Celo gathered everyone for a moment of reflection. “We have not only tackled a pressing issue today but have also strengthened our bonds as a community,” he said, his voice filled with gratitude. “Let us continue this spirit of service and support for one another.”

The event concluded with a prayer of thanksgiving, appreciating the strength and unity that allowed them to achieve so much in just one day. Cheers erupted throughout Parklane Homes, celebrating their successful cleanup and renewed dedication to maintaining a healthy environment.

As the volunteers dispersed, they carried not only the satisfaction of a job well done but also a sense of pride in their community. “Let’s Fight Dengue” was more than just a project; it became a symbol of what could be accomplished when individuals come together for a common cause.

Together, they had achieved something remarkable that day, reminding each other that with faith, cooperation, and hard work, they could create a brighter and safer future for everyone in Parklane Homes and beyond.
