RC Lingayen Leads “Rooted in Change” Mangrove Rehabilitation Project in Lingayen, Pangasinan

On November 22, 2025, the Rotary Club of Lingayen, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Lingayen, Interact Club of Lingayen, JCI Lingayen Bagoong, and JJC Lingayen Golden Lions, successfully implemented the “Rooted in Change: A Mangrove Rehabilitation Project” along the coastal area of Barangay Capandanan, Lingayen, Pangasinan.

The initiative was spearheaded by Rotarian Adalia Sorio and Interactor Elijah Dwayne Sorio, demonstrating strong intergenerational collaboration in advancing environmental sustainability and coastal protection. The activity brought together Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, and community partners in a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.

A total of 300 mangrove propagules were planted during the activity. These mangroves are expected to play a vital role in protecting the shoreline from soil erosion, especially during extreme weather conditions, while also serving as natural breeding and nesting grounds for marine life. In doing so, the project directly supports the livelihoods of local fishermen by preserving the ecological balance of coastal waters.

The initiative underscores the importance of mangrove rehabilitation in building climate-resilient coastal communities. It also highlights the power of collaboration among youth organizations, civic groups, and Rotary in creating meaningful environmental impact.

Through “Rooted in Change,” the participating organizations reaffirmed their commitment to protecting natural ecosystems and strengthening community resilience. The project stands as a living example of how collective action can restore the environment while safeguarding the future of coastal livelihoods in Lingayen.
