RC Cebu Gloria Maris Proposes WASH Project for Tejero Elementary School

“Clean water and proper sanitation are foundations for a bright future.”

On September 19, 2025, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM), led by President Roxene Rosario, took a major step toward empowering local education and health by presenting a vital WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project proposal at a collaborative meeting held at the DPWH Regional Office. The presentation was made alongside Rotarian Diane Rallon and attended by key stakeholders including representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), Department of Education (DepEd), and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The proposal aims to provide sustainable access to clean water, improved sanitation facilities, and hygiene education for Tejero Elementary School—benefiting hundreds of students and faculty.

“WASH is not just infrastructure; it’s a health and dignity lifeline for children’s learning environments,” commented Rotarian Diane Rallon.

The pitch underscored the pressing need for reliable water sources and hygienic facilities in schools to reduce disease risk and promote lifelong healthy habits starting at a young age. With the combined expertise of government agencies and Rotary’s commitment to community welfare, the project promises a holistic solution that integrates infrastructure, education, and community engagement.

Rotary Areas of Focus Highlighted

  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene: Central to this project is ensuring access to clean water and adequate sanitation in schools, directly addressing public health and quality of life for vulnerable children.

  • Education and Literacy: The project supports educational achievement by creating a safer, healthier school environment conducive to learning.

  • Partners in Service: This initiative exemplifies effective collaboration between RCCGM, government bodies, and military units, emphasizing synergy for sustainable community impact.

Why This Project Appeals to RCCGM

The WASH project proposal is a natural extension of Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris’s deep-rooted commitment to fostering youth development and community health. By targeting a school environment, the club invests in both present well-being and future generations.

A club leader emphasized, “Clean water and proper sanitation in schools pave the way for healthier, brighter futures—this project embodies Rotary’s mission to create lasting change.”

As the WASH project moves forward from proposal to action, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris stands as a beacon of hope and progress. “Access to clean water and sanitation is a basic human right—through this project, we build healthier lives and empowered learners, one drop at a time.”
