Patak Kontra-Polio, Oral Vaccination Drive

The Rotary Club of Marikina Valley, in support of the “End Polio Now” Campaign, administered oral polio vaccines to 80 children aged 5 and below with the assistance of the Municipal Health Office of Montalban. Aside from providing meals and snacks for the volunteers, a short information session was also conducted for the parents along with the distribution of information materials and Rotary “End Polio Now” pubmats.

Moreover, we held a motorcade from Marikina City to the Munting Ilaw Barangay Health Station in Rodriguez, Rizal, with the assistance of the Kabalikat Civicom, our Rotary Community Corps, to further raise awareness of our advocacy. Large “End Polio Now” tarpaulins were displayed on our vehicles in the convoy to promote the campaign along the way.

Lastly, with the help of the Municipal Health Office and consultations with other barangay officials and parents in the area, we learned a lot about what the community needs. We found out that many children had not yet received their oral polio vaccines due to limited access to health services and a lack of awareness. With this in mind, we initiated the Oral Polio Vaccination drive to protect children from the dangers posed by polio.

This project is not just the administration of oral polio vaccines, but we also wanted to impart and spread information within the community, which is why we also conducted information sessions with the parents and distributed educational materials. We wouldn’t want this project to just end here, which is why through these additional initiatives, we will be able to continue the benefits reaped by the community since the parents are now well informed and motivated to ensure their children’s full immunization.

Through the collaboration with the Municipal Health Office, we were able to strengthen local vaccination efforts, ensuring that the advocacy for a polio-free community will be sustained.
