The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) is set to enhance its automotive training facilities following the successful acquisition of a P1.89 million (approximately USD 32,000) Rotary International Global Grant.
This milestone marks a major step toward strengthening technical education and workforce readiness in Iloilo. ISUFST secured the grant through a partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Iloilo and Namweon Central of South Korea, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing the growing gap in automotive skills through modern, hands-on training.
With the funding, the university will acquire advanced automotive technology and equipment essential for practical instruction. Among the upgrades are lifters for electric cars, gasoline and diesel engines integrated with computer boxes and harnesses, various types of welding machines, and a digital oscilloscope. These tools are expected to significantly improve the quality of training for students in automotive and mechanical disciplines.
ISUFST highlighted that the initiative will benefit poor but deserving students by giving them access to modern training tools, thereby improving their employment prospects and contributing to community development. The upgraded training facility is also expected to serve as a center of technical excellence in the region.
The university projects that the fully upgraded automotive facilities will be ready for use by April 2025.
