Growing Hope from the Ground Up: RC San Fernando La Union Leads 1st Hydroponics Farm in RCC Abut

Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU) led the successful establishment and turnover of its first Hydroponics Farm to RCC Abut last February 18, 2025. The initiative marked a milestone in the Club’s continuing efforts to empower communities through innovation and practical solutions. More than just introducing a modern farming technique, the project represents a long-term investment in food security and economic opportunity.

The hydroponics system allows vegetables to be grown efficiently without soil, conserving water and maximizing limited space—an ideal model for communities seeking alternative and climate-resilient food production. Through this initiative, RCSFLU actively advances Rotary’s Area of Focus on Supporting the Environment by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and environmental stewardship at the grassroots level.

To ensure sustainability, the project included a Hydroponics Seminar for Areas 1 and 2, equipping participants with knowledge on system maintenance, crop management, and long-term operations. By combining infrastructure with education, RCSFLU strengthened local capacity and ownership—key components in creating lasting impact.

As the farm begins its productive cycle under the stewardship of RCC Abut, it stands as a living testament to Rotary’s vision: when innovation meets service, communities flourish.
