Focus on Vision: Supporting Our Seniors

Restoring clarity, dignity, and independence through sustained community service

Clear vision is fundamental to independence, safety, and quality of life—yet for many senior citizens, access to basic eye care remains limited. In response, the Rotary Club of Sampaguita Grace Park implemented Focus on Vision: Supporting Our Seniors, a sustained community service initiative addressing age-related vision challenges among elderly residents of Caloocan City.

The project was first implemented on November 24, 2025, through collaboration with the Quezon City Dynamic Lions Club, the Diocesan Shrine & Parish of Our Lady of Grace Commission on Social Services & Development, the Federation of Senior Citizens Caloocan South, the Rotaract Club of University of Caloocan City, and the Rotaract Club of Millennial Sampaguita Grace Park. Through this collective effort, 200 senior citizens received much-needed vision care—many for the first time in their lives.

Each beneficiary was provided with free vision screening, corrective eyeglasses, eye-care education with printed handouts, and basic health guidance. The impact was immediate and practical: seniors regained the ability to read, move safely, and perform daily activities with greater confidence and independence. Beyond distributing eyeglasses, the project emphasized education and prevention. Seniors were taught proper eye care, correct use and maintenance of glasses, and simple habits to reduce eye strain.

Health awareness discussions, including diabetes education delivered by partner organizations, reinforced the importance of holistic wellness. This approach ensured that beneficiaries were not only assisted, but also empowered to take an active role in maintaining their health.

The initiative was supported by 19 dedicated volunteers, composed of 6 Rotarians, 11 Rotaractors, and 10 non-Rotarian community volunteers—demonstrating Rotary’s ability to unite people across generations and sectors in meaningful service.

As a continuation of the same initiative, the project was carried forward on January 13, 2026, led by the Rotary Club of Sampaguita Grace Park in partnership with Rotaract Clubs and community stakeholders.

This phase served an additional 170 senior citizens, expanding access to vision care and reinforcing the project’s commitment to continuity rather than one-time assistance.

Through compassion, collaboration, and sustained engagement, Focus on Vision: Supporting Our Seniors restored more than eyesight. It restored dignity, independence, and confidence—affirming that when Rotary service is community-driven and sustained, its impact becomes truly transformative.
