Cut to Success: Empowering Lives Beyond the Barber’s Chair

“Service Above Self is most meaningful when it empowers people to build a better future for themselves.”

On October 4, 2026, the Rotary Club of Marikina West, under the dynamic leadership of High Impact President Katrina Frances C. Evasco, launched the Barbers Livelihood Program at the Armpac Compound Basketball Court—a project that transformed compassion into opportunity and hope into sustainable action.

In partnership with the Armpac Homeowners Association, led by HOA Officer Roy Allan Perante, the club identified five deserving beneficiaries whose passion and skills in barbering simply needed the right opportunity to flourish. This collaboration exemplified Rotary’s belief that meaningful service is strengthened through partnerships rooted in community trust.

Each beneficiary received a complete barber toolkit and ₱5,000 in start-up capital, equipping them with the resources to establish or strengthen their own livelihood. More than a charitable donation, these tools represented independence, dignity, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

To introduce their services to the community, each new barber provided eight complimentary haircuts, transforming a simple act of grooming into a meaningful exchange of confidence, trust, and hope. The event was further enriched by free food and refreshments for all participants, fostering fellowship among volunteers, residents, and the beneficiaries whose lives had just begun a new chapter.

What distinguishes the Barbers Livelihood Program is its commitment to sustainability. Rather than providing temporary relief, the initiative empowers individuals to generate lasting income through their own skills and determination. It affirms a simple yet powerful truth: when people are given the opportunity to earn with dignity, they become active partners in building stronger families and more resilient communities.

While the project directly benefited five individuals, its impact extends far beyond those recipients. Every haircut they provide becomes another step toward financial stability. Every satisfied customer becomes part of a growing story of resilience. Every peso earned supports families, nurtures aspirations, and strengthens the social fabric of the community.

This initiative reflects Rotary’s enduring commitment to creating lasting change—not merely by responding to immediate needs, but by investing in human potential. Through thoughtful collaboration, compassionate leadership, and sustainable service, the Rotary Club of Marikina West has demonstrated that the greatest gift we can offer is the opportunity for others to succeed through their own efforts.

The Barbers Livelihood Program reminds us that true service is not measured by the number of donations made, but by the number of lives empowered. As these five new entrepreneurs begin their journey, they carry with them more than barbering tools—they carry renewed confidence, restored dignity, and the unwavering support of a Rotary family that believes in their future.

For the Rotary Club of Marikina West, this is more than a livelihood project. It is a lasting investment in people—one haircut, one family, and one transformed life at a time.

What a great project. Helping the needy by giving the opportunity to have their own livelihood and impacting their communities.
