Collaborating for Climate Action: A Rotary Fellowship on Environmental Stewardship

On August 1, 2025 at Manila Hotel, a meaningful and purpose-driven 3 hour Rotary Fellowship was held, bringing together passionate Rotarians for collaboration and discussion centered on one of Rotary’s key Areas of Focus: Supporting the Environment.

This fellowship served as an open platform for Rotarians to share ideas and explore practical ways to take climate action—especially in light of the increasing environmental challenges we face today, including floods, typhoons, deforestation, and water scarcity. The growing urgency of climate change reminds us that our responsibility to care for the environment is not only timely but essential.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the shared admiration for the inspiring work of Past President Rene “Butch” Madarang of the Rotary Club of Quezon City, District 3780, also known as the Bamboo King in his remarkable contribution, planting over 8.3 million trees in key watershed areas, stood as a powerful example of how one Rotarian’s vision and dedication can make a transformative impact on our environment and future generations.

During the fellowship, participating clubs engaged in fruitful exchanges of ideas and laid the groundwork for future joint initiatives focused on sustainability, tree planting, environmental awareness campaigns, and community education. The atmosphere was filled with renewed commitment, unity, and a shared sense of purpose.

This event is a strong reminder that we don’t have to wait for perfect circumstances to take action. Every project, no matter the scale, contributes to the global mission of environmental protection. As Rotarians, we are called to lead by example, and to act with intention, compassion, and courage.

Together, we rise to the challenge—because the planet cannot wait. And with collaboration, we can make a lasting difference.
