The Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU) held its 29th Regular Meeting on April 21, featuring an inspiring session with guest speaker Mike Young. The meeting served as a platform not only for fellowship among members but also for meaningful learning centered on youth development and mentorship through sports.
Mr. Young, a seasoned coach in softball for girls and baseball for boys, shared his journey of shaping young athletes both on and off the field. His experience highlighted how sports can serve as a powerful avenue for character formation, going beyond physical training to instill values that last a lifetime.
In his talk, he emphasized the importance of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork—qualities that resonate strongly with Rotary’s core values. He noted that while winning games is important, developing responsible, confident, and resilient individuals remains the true measure of success.
Rotarians in attendance found his message both relatable and inspiring, especially in the context of community service. His approach to mentorship mirrors Rotary’s mission of empowering the next generation through guidance and opportunity.
The session concluded with a renewed appreciation for the role of sports and mentorship in community building, reinforcing the club’s commitment to supporting youth-focused initiatives.
