Headed by President Richeen Padua, together with Service Director PP Hansel Hernandes, Special Project Chair PP Joey Fernandez, RCC President and Community Chairman of Apia, Calawis Francis Bardel, the Rotaract Club of Rizal Mideast, and the entire Rotary Club of Rizal Mideast, this initiative stands as a heartfelt mission of service, compassion, and hope for the community of Sitio Apia, Barangay Calawis, Antipolo City.
Hidden in a remote part of Antipolo City, the community of Sitio Apia continues to live without electricity and with very limited access to healthcare. In times of illness, families do what they can with what little they have. For years, patients in the area have been cared for using a makeshift bed fashioned from an old table with its legs cut short — a humble effort to provide comfort in the absence of proper medical equipment.
What makes this even more emotional for us in the Rotary Club of Rizal Mideast is knowing that this improvised bed traces back to an earlier donation from our club many years ago. It stands today not only as a symbol of hardship, but also of the community’s resilience and determination to care for one another despite difficult circumstances.
There is already a building in the community intended to serve as a place of care and healing, but it remains mostly empty because of the lack of resources and medical equipment needed to make it functional.
As we visited Sitio Apia, we were deeply moved by the realities faced by the residents every single day. No patient should have to endure sickness without proper care, comfort, or dignity. Yet despite these hardships, the community continues to show strength, hope, and unity.
Beyond the medical mission, our team also shared meals with the residents as a simple gesture of fellowship and care. We likewise supported local livelihoods by purchasing crops such as ginger and turmeric directly from the community farmers — helping provide additional income to families in the area while recognizing the hard work and resilience of the local people.
Through the Hospital Bed Donation and Medical Supplies Drive, Rotary Club of Rizal Mideast hopes to help bring not only medical support, but also compassion and dignity to every patient and family in Sitio Apia.
A hospital bed may seem simple to many, but for this community, it represents care, humanity, and the reassurance that they are not forgotten. This mission reminds us why Rotary exists — to reach communities that are often unseen, to listen where help is needed most, and to serve beyond ourselves.
Together, we continue to unite for good, one life, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
