When Service Crosses the Sea: A Rotary Story of Hope in Masbate

After the storm had spent its fury and the winds fell silent, what lingered in Masbate was not only the damage left behind—but the quiet resolve of communities determined to rise again.

Across the sea, that resolve was met with compassion.

Guided by the enduring Rotary ideal of Service Above Self, the Rotary Club of Cebu South, together with Cebu Logistics Golf Club, OPASCOR, and Power Systems, set in motion a mission of mercy for families affected by the recent typhoon. Their journey led them to the Municipality of Cawayan, reaching Barangay Talisay, Barangay Looc, and Barangay Punta Batsan—communities where recovery had begun, but help was still deeply needed.

“More than relief goods, Rotary brought a reminder that even after the storm, hope still arrives—carried by service and shared humanity.”

Relief came in the form of sacks of rice, five-gallon drinking water containers with faucets, and assorted essential goods. Yet what was carried into these barangays went beyond provisions. Each delivery was a gesture of solidarity. Each shared item, a quiet assurance that they had not been forgotten.

In moments when loss feels overwhelming, the presence of service becomes powerful. Through cooperation and shared purpose, Rotarians and partners stood side by side with the people of Masbate—listening, helping, and reminding them that hope travels far when hearts are united.

This humanitarian effort was not merely a response to disaster, but a reflection of Rotary’s continuing promise: to serve swiftly, to serve compassionately, and to stand with communities in their most vulnerable hours. In Masbate, service crossed the sea—and in its wake, left strength, dignity, and renewed hope.
