On July 24, 2025, the Climate Change Commission (CCC), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Aseana Manila and the Philippine Army, launched the project titled “Tree Planting for Climate Adaptation and Food Security” at Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.
The initiative marked the beginning of a long-term commitment to plant coconut trees across 200 hectares of military reservation land—an effort that aims to strengthen both climate resilience and food security for future generations. The first wave of planting saw the participation of CCC officials, Rotarians, uniformed personnel, and volunteers from partner organizations.
The project is envisioned not only as an environmental strategy but as a livelihood initiative that, in the years to come, could benefit millions of Filipino families and communities. By focusing on coconut trees, the program seeks to promote sustainable agriculture, carbon sequestration, and rural economic growth.
The event was graced by Climate Change Commissioner Albert Dela Cruz, Rotary Club of Aseana Manila President Sheryll Ann Mesina, and Installation Management Command Major General Florante Sison, alongside local stakeholders and military leadership. Participants joined in planting over 1,000 coconut seedlings during the ceremonial kickoff.
The initiative reflects Rotary’s seventh area of focus—Supporting the Environment—and reinforces the Philippine Army’s role not only in national defense but also in environmental stewardship.
While full implementation will take time, the groundwork has been laid for a transformative project that blends climate action with community empowerment. The commitment to continue nurturing the land, expand the plantation, and engage local communities ensures that this effort will grow deeper roots in the years to come—both literally and figuratively.
