The Municipality of Siruma, Camarines Sur is set to formalize a landmark partnership with EcoSaver Mutual Fund Inc. under the REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) framework, aiming to conserve over 16,000 hectares of forests and mangroves while promoting climate-resilient livelihoods for local communities.
This collaboration brings together the Siruma LGU, EcoSaver, the Climate Change Commission (CCC), and Rotary leaders, aligning with DENR policies and international carbon market standards. The initiative integrates forest protection, mangrove rehabilitation, and agroforestry involving crops such as moringa, coconut, and pineapple—linking conservation efforts with sustainable economic opportunities.
Early stages include mapping, documentation, and baseline validation to guide community engagement and ensure certification under REDD+ and VCS frameworks.
Key leaders driving the partnership include Sheryll Ann Mesina, Chairman of EcoSaver Mutual Fund Inc., President of the ASEAN Carbon Market Sustainability Council, and President of the Rotary Club of Aseana Manila; PE Allyson Santos, President-Elect of the same club and President/CEO of EcoSaver; UCP Karen Rose Gamboa-Sumandal of RC Pasay Dewey Blvd; and UCP Christina Allada of RC Manila Villamor. Mayor Karina Polinga and Vice Mayor Christopher Candellaria expressed full support, recognizing the initiative as a major step toward climate resilience and sustainable growth in Siruma.
