Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris Nurtures Young Learners at St. Arnold Janssen Daycare Center for Healthier Futures

The aroma of freshly cooked meals drifted through a modest daycare center, signaling more than lunchtime—it marked a quiet promise being kept to the city’s youngest learners.

On January 22, 2026, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM) carried out its weekly visit to St. Arnold Janssen Daycare Center, a routine that has steadily grown into a lifeline for children enrolled in the AMOMA sa Kaugmaon program. Inside the bright but humble facility, caregivers moved efficiently in a fully equipped kitchen, preparing hot, nutritious meals that awaited students immediately after their daily classes. For many of these children, this meal is not simply a snack—it is a cornerstone of daily nourishment and growth.

The visit unfolded with quiet purpose. Members of RCCGM observed meal preparation, ensuring food quality and nutrition standards were met, while also engaging with teachers and staff who work tirelessly to care for the children. What may appear as a simple feeding activity is, in reality, a carefully sustained effort to safeguard childhood health during the most formative years.

Beyond nourishment, the Rotary team conducted weight and height monitoring for children under the AMOMA sa Kaugmaon program. Each measurement was carefully recorded, transforming numbers into meaningful indicators of progress. Growth charts told stories—of children thriving, of others needing closer attention, and of why regular monitoring matters. Past President Gay Marie Tiu and Secretary Dorothy Borces were present, quietly overseeing the activity and engaging with caregivers, reinforcing the club’s commitment to hands-on service.

After the assessments came a moment of joy. Children gathered eagerly as nutrient-packed ube pancakes were distributed. Sticky fingers, wide smiles, and excited chatter filled the room as the children enjoyed the treat. In those small moments—purple-stained smiles and laughter—nutrition became both care and comfort.

“Moments like these remind us why consistent care and monitoring matter in building healthier futures for our children.”— Past President Gay Marie Tiu

A Project Rooted in Rotary’s Areas of Focus

This initiative directly supports Rotary’s Areas of Focus on Maternal and Child Health and Basic Education and Literacy.

  • Maternal and Child Health: By ensuring children receive nutritious meals and undergo regular growth monitoring, RCCGM helps prevent malnutrition, identify health concerns early, and support physical development at a critical stage of life.

  • Basic Education and Literacy: Healthy children learn better. Proper nutrition and well-being enable students to stay focused in class, attend school consistently, and fully benefit from early childhood education.

Through consistent weekly visits, RCCGM addresses not only hunger but the broader ecosystem of child development—nutrition, monitoring, and care working together.

Why This Project Is Close to RCCGM’s Heart

For the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris—an all-women club built on sisterhood and service—this project reflects a deeply held belief: caring for children is caring for the future. Many members are educators, mothers, and community leaders who understand that early intervention can change life trajectories. The AMOMA sa Kaugmaon program resonates with the club’s identity, emphasizing sustained presence rather than one-time assistance.

This is not charity delivered and forgotten—it is commitment renewed week after week.

Each visit strengthens relationships with caregivers, builds trust with families, and ensures that no child’s growth goes unnoticed. The club’s approach mirrors Rotary’s ethos of service above self, where impact is measured not in grand gestures but in consistency and compassion.

In a city moving fast toward progress, Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris proves that lasting change often begins in quiet rooms, with warm meals, careful measurements, and hearts committed to showing up—every single week.
