Members of Rotary Community Corps Abut, the adopted community of the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union, carried out another milestone activity in their community agriculture initiative on March 8. At around 5:00 PM, volunteers gathered for the transplanting of lettuce seedlings, a key step in the ongoing hydroponics and urban farming project supported by the Rotary club.
The activity involved carefully transferring young lettuce seedlings into their designated hydroponic growing systems within the community greenhouse. Participants worked collaboratively to ensure proper spacing, nutrient flow, and environmental conditions necessary for the plants’ healthy development. The transplanting stage marks a critical phase in the crop cycle and signals steady progress in the community’s agricultural venture.
The hydroponics project forms part of RCSFLU’s broader effort to promote sustainable livelihood opportunities and food security within its partner communities. By introducing innovative and space-efficient farming techniques, the initiative empowers local residents to produce fresh vegetables while learning practical agricultural skills.
Community members expressed enthusiasm as they participated in the hands-on activity, seeing firsthand how the project continues to evolve from a simple concept into a functional and productive greenhouse operation. The project also fosters cooperation, shared responsibility, and pride among the members of the community.
Through initiatives like this, Rotary demonstrates how grassroots action can create lasting impact. By supporting sustainable agriculture and empowering community partners, RCSFLU continues to advance its mission of service, sustainability, and community development—transforming small steps into meaningful progress for the future.
