RC San Fernando La Union to Launch 30-sqm Hydroponics Farm for Rotary Community Corps

The Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU) is set to break new ground in community-based agriculture with the upcoming launch of a 30-square-meter hydroponics farm under its Rotary Community Corps (RCC) program.

The initiative, which began as a proposal for a greenhouse-based hydroponic project, is designed to transform a hydroponic kit into a fully functional farm at Brgy. Abut, serving as a pilot for future community projects. The project was discussed by Director Marlon during the last Board of Directors meeting on January 6, 2026, and was subsequently approved.

An ocular visit and coordination meeting took place on January 14, 2026, to finalize plans and ensure smooth implementation. The RCSFLU team is targeting February 18, 2026, for the official launch of the farm, which aims to promote sustainable agriculture, provide practical learning opportunities, and empower community members through innovative farming techniques.

The hydroponics project reflects RCSFLU’s commitment to community development, sustainability, and skill-building, offering a model that can be replicated in other areas to advance local food production and resilience. This also aligns with Rotary’s Area of Focus on Supporting the Environment and Community Economic Development, as it promotes sustainable food production, environmental stewardship, and livelihood opportunities.

Prior to this initiative, RCSFLU conducted a seminar-orientation on the Rotary Community Corps (RCC) and formally turned over a hydroponics kit to the community, laying the foundation for skills development and community ownership.

The proposed farm builds on this initial support, transforming learning into a practical, long-term, and income-generating solution for Brgy. Abut.
