RC San Fernando La Union Extends Relief to More Than 90 Fire-Affected Residents of Ilocanos Sur
A fire may consume possessions in a matter of minutes, but it cannot extinguish a community’s capacity to care. On September 1, 2026, the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU) reached out to families affected by the recent fire incident in Ilocanos Sur, bringing much-needed assistance to more than 90 affected residents as they began the difficult task of recovering from the tragedy.
Responding to the immediate needs of the displaced families, the Club turned over an assortment of essential household and personal items, including blankets, bed sheets, pillows, towels, clothes, slippers, and hygiene products. More than material assistance, each donated item carried a simple but important message to the affected residents: in moments of loss, they do not have to face recovery alone.
The relief items given by PP Khenrik Tan, PP Albert Dy and PP Gabby Go through the efforts of IPP Alvin and Auditor Benjamin “Jun” Ang Jr., who coordinated the turnover of the donations to ensure that the assistance reached the affected community. Their efforts, together with the generosity behind every donated item, transformed compassion into timely and tangible action.
For families recovering from a fire, the road back to normalcy extends far beyond the day the flames are extinguished. Basic necessities that are easily taken for granted suddenly become essential to restoring comfort and dignity. Through the relief operation, RCSFLU sought to help ease that burden, even in a modest way, by providing items that families could immediately use as they moved forward. The activity once again demonstrated the Club’s readiness to respond when communities face unexpected hardship.
