RC Rizal Centro Champions Clean Communities Through Waste Management Initiative in Barangay Dolores

In its continued mission to serve communities and promote sustainable living, the Rotary Club of Rizal Centro spearheaded a waste management initiative in Barangay Dolores, Taytay, Rizal. Through the donation of four (4) industrial-grade garbage disposal units, the club addressed the pressing need for proper waste management among informal settler communities along Ortigas Avenue Extension—helping transform a long-standing sanitation challenge into a model for community collaboration and care.

For years, residents in certain areas of Barangay Dolores have struggled with the lack of accessible garbage collection points. Despite having a regular waste management route, refuse from informal settler communities often went uncollected, leading to littered public spaces and unsanitary surroundings.

Recognizing this gap, the Rotary Club of Rizal Centro initiated the Garbage Disposal Donation Project, providing durable, industrial-grade garbage bins designed to serve as centralized collection points for nearby households. These bins were strategically placed in coordination with Barangay Dolores officials, ensuring accessibility and visibility for residents.

Beyond the donation, the project’s success was anchored on collaboration. The Rotary Club worked closely with Barangay Dolores and the local waste management team to integrate the new bins into the official waste collection route—ensuring that trash from informal settler areas would now be regularly and properly collected. Barangay officials also coordinated with residents to raise awareness on responsible waste practices, encouraging them to dispose of their garbage properly and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

Through this united effort, the initiative not only provided essential infrastructure but also fostered community ownership, shared accountability, and environmental stewardship. This partnership reflects Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self”, turning a simple act of donation into a lasting, community-driven solution.

The Barangay Dolores Garbage Disposal Donation Project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion. By addressing the specific needs of informal settlers, strengthening local waste systems, and promoting sustainable habits, the Rotary Club of Rizal Centro continues to build cleaner, healthier, and more resilient communities—one clean, cared-for neighborhood at a time.
