The Rotary Club of New Manila East (RCNME) honored individuals who have made a significant impact in their fields through community service and vocational excellence at the Golden Wheel & Mario R. Nery Vocational Excellence Awards on February 9, 2025, at Seda Vertis North. This meaningful event recognized leaders whose work has improved lives while exemplifying Rotary’s commitment to “Service Above Self.”
PP Antonio “Anton” Sayo: Championing Public Health
RCNME nominee Past President Antonio “Anton” Sayo received the Mario Nery Vocational Excellence Award, given to Rotarians whose professional and humanitarian efforts have made a lasting difference in their communities.
As President of Alay Buhay Community Development Foundation, Inc., Mr. Sayo has led initiatives in tuberculosis prevention and community health programs, ensuring that essential medical services reach those who need them most. His leadership has strengthened efforts to curb disease and provide healthcare access to underserved communities.
Past President Anton Sayo was one of 11 honorees of the Mario R. Nery Vocational Excellence Award, alongside Civil Service Commissioner and former Department of Agrarian Reform Undersecretary Luis Pangulayan and PNP Chief of the Directorial Staff, Police Lieutenant General Edgar Alan Okubo. Their work in public service, governance, and healthcare reflects the meaningful role Rotarians play in shaping a better society.
Philip Francisco Dy: Driving Community Development
Another RCNME nominee, Philip Francisco “Boyet” Dy, Executive Vice President of Metrobank Foundation, Inc., was honored with the Golden Wheel Award for his commitment to public service and nation-building.
Philip Dy has led Metrobank Foundation in designing and implementing long-term initiatives in education, healthcare, arts, livelihood, and disaster response. He previously served as Chief of Staff in the Office of Vice President Leni Robredo, helping implement programs that addressed urgent social issues. Under his guidance, Metrobank Foundation and GT Foundation have expanded their reach, benefiting teachers, soldiers, police officers, and other public servants.
Dy was among 11 leaders recognized with the Golden Wheel Award, joining Senator Risa Hontiveros, University of the Philippines President Angelo A. Jimenez, and PNP Chief PGEN Romel Francisco D. Marbil. His career, which includes serving as Chief of Staff to former Vice President Leni Robredo, reflects his deep involvement in governance and community service, making him a true practitioner of Rotary’s Four-Way Test.
A Night of Leadership, Service, and Impact
“The RCNME Golden Wheel & Mario R. Nery Awards nominees are individuals whose contributions extend beyond their professions, creating tangible change in their communities.” said Karlo Benjamin Nisce, the President of the Rotary Club of New Manila East.
In his speech, District Governor of Rotary International District 3780 Milo Lucenario mentions; “This year’s Golden Wheel Awardees represent our core values of passion, excellence, and service, as symbolized by the Rotary Wheel. They were selected for their significant and lasting contributions, their dedication beyond duty, and the recognition they have earned from their peers and the communities they serve,”
As RCNME continues to drive meaningful service projects, this year’s Golden Wheel and Mario Nery awardees stand as reminders that leadership is not defined by status, but by the real impact one leaves on others.
