RC Makati Dasmariñas gives at-risk youth tools for emotional healing and resilience

Introduction to the Workshop’s Mission

The Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Arellano University and the Rotaract Club of Changebringers, recently organized a transformative Music and Art Therapy Workshop at Kanlungan sa Pasig. This workshop aimed to provide a

safe and supportive space for children in conflict with the law and children at risk, giving them an avenue for creative expression, healing, and personal development.

Meet the Mentors
A safe space for self-expression: why creative therapy matters for vulnerable youth.
Inside the minds of artist Jojo Hilario and meditation expert Maya Banawa as they guide youth through art and music therapy.

The workshop was led by two remarkable professionals: Mr. Jojo Hilario, a gifted freelance artist known for his passion for drawing, comics, movies, and gaming, and Ms. Maya Banawa, a specialist in self-mastery and meditative inner child healing. Together, they demonstrated the profound therapeutic power of music and art in fostering mental health awareness and overall emotional well-being, particularly for vulnerable children.

Activities that Heal

From sketching emotions to meditative music, discover the transformative power of creative expression.

The workshop engaged participants in activities that allowed them to explore and express

emotions healthily and creatively. Mr. Hilario guided the children through art-based exercises, encouraging them to share their thoughts and feelings through drawing and sketching. These activities offered a crucial outlet for self-expression, providing a safe space for many participants to release and process their emotions.

Meanwhile, Ms. Banawa’s holistic approach combined art and music, promoting emotional

healing through introspective and meditative practices. Her focus on reconnecting with the

inner child helped participants confront and release emotional blockages, fostering introspection and self-awareness. By blending music and art, the workshop provided a comprehensive therapeutic experience, enabling the children to relax and process their

emotions in a non-verbal, intuitive way.

Mental Health Awareness in Action

Why mental health support for youth is crucial—and how workshops like this are

leading the way. Mental health awareness is more essential than ever, particularly for marginalized groups like children in conflict with the law. These children face complex challenges affecting their mental and emotional well-being, making it vital to provide positive outlets to express and process their emotions. This workshop not only fostered awareness of mental health but also equipped participants with practical tools to manage stress, handle emotions, and build resilience in the face of adversity.

Lasting Benefits for Participants and the Community

How emotional healing through art builds resilience, fosters confidence, and

strengthens community ties.

Workshops like these are invaluable for children who have experienced trauma or challenging life circumstances, as they offer a nurturing space to heal and grow. Through creative tools, the workshop empowered participants with coping mechanisms to build resilience and encourage personal growth. The skills and insights gained will help them navigate daily challenges with increased confidence and emotional stability, contributing to a stronger community.

Join the Cause

Your chance to support future workshops—help change lives, one brushstroke at a time. The Music and Art Therapy Workshop at Kanlungan sa Pasig was a significant step in promoting mental wellness and emotional healing for children in conflict with the law and children at risk. By supporting youth-focused initiatives, we can all contribute to building a stronger, healthier generation equipped to overcome adversity. We encourage everyone to join us in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. Through community efforts and partnerships, we can create more programs like this, helping our youth grow into empowered and resilient individuals ready to face life’s challenges.
