RC Creative City Baguio conducts Project OPT: One for Peace and Tourism seminar-workshop in Tuba
Tourism stakeholders from different barangay and government officials and employees of Tuba, Benguet learned matters on maintaining a peaceful tourist destination, essential skills as tourism ambassadors, and strategic tips and plans to make the municipality a competitive destination.
This is through the Project OPT: One for Peace and Tourism seminar-workshop organized and conducted by the Rotary Club of Creative City Baguio (RCCCB) on August 5, 2026 at the Old PNP Building at Barangay Poblacion, Tuba.
RCCCB President Samson Amistad, a Retired Police Lieutenant Colonel and former Chief of Police who traces his roots in Tuba, Benguet led the activity which aims to help the municipality achieve its tourism goals as “Highways of Discoveries.”
In his lecture in the workshop dubbed “Sustaining Peace for Inclusive Tourism development” he underscored the role of everyone in maintaining a peaceful Tuba which is very essential in tourism and this starts with a smile.
Moreover, Up North Business Club President Jonathan “Nathan” Barroga, a multi-awarded hotelier and general manager of the Newtown Plaza Hotel Corporation, Travelite Hotel, and Travelite Express Hotel shared tips on how to welcome tourists and every resident’s role as tourism ambassador and more in his talk entitled "Community Ambassadors in Action: Self-Leadership, Personal Development, and Tour Guiding Skills.
University of the Cordilleras Professor Dr. Nolan Guillao a well-respected educator and speaker on management, marketing, and policy development saved the best for last on his lecture entitled "Tuba, Benguet: Building a Distinctive, Sustainable, and Competitive Destination." He discussed on Tuba tourism promotion, tourism slogan, tourism destination packages among others.
Despite the severe weather caused by typhoon Maymay more than a hundred participated in the seminar-workshop representing the 13 barangays of Tuba.
Meanwhile Atty. George Fukai III, Tuba Executive Assistant who represented Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan and Mayler Fianza from Tuba Tourism Office expressed their gratitude to RCCCB for bringing Project OPT to their municipality.
The participants were also provided snacks prepared by Up North Business Club and Philippine Institute of Culinary Arts, flashlights courtesy of Alma Amistad, and vitamins from Past Presidents Jerry Chan and Audrey Sungduan.
Project OPT chair RCCCB Immediate Past President Alah Sungduan and Club Secretary Tanisha Amistad said the event was successfully implemented in partnership with Tuba LGU and Tuba Tourism Office.
