RC Cebu Port Centre Strengthens Commitment to Basic Education & Literacy at Tejero Elementary School ALS Learning Center

Under the leadership of RCCPC President Francis Walter Ong, along with PAG Dr. Jose Unabia, IPP Kit Daleon, Dir. Clark Gothong, and Dir. Robert Barquilla, the Rotary Club of Cebu Port Centre made a significant visit to the Tejero Elementary School ALS Learning Center in response to a heartfelt request from Ms. Edna Dignos Piañar, District ALS Coordinator ND5.

During the visit, the RCCPC team engaged with Elementary School Principal Churchita Padernal, who shared pressing concerns affecting their students’ welfare, especially the urgent need to address the leaking roof of the ALS building. This issue poses a threat to school computers, supplies, and overall learning conditions, requiring immediate replacement to prevent further damage.

Other priority needs highlighted during the discussion include:

  • Renovation and refurbishing of the ALS front signage,

  • Replacement of the second-floor ceiling, and

  • Rehabilitation of the school’s dental equipment—previously donated by RCCPC—to ensure continued dental care for students.

It was also recalled that the Tejero Elementary School-Alternative Learning System Building itself was donated by RCCPC in 2005 under the leadership of then PP George Hong through the club’s Community Development Program.

These initiatives demonstrate RCCPC’s unwavering commitment to one of Rotary’s key areas of focus: Basic Education & Literacy. By responding to these needs, RCCPC continues to create a positive impact on the lives of marginalized learners, empowering them with better opportunities for growth and success.

Together, we Unite for Good—because every child deserves a safe, nurturing place to learn.
