In the early hours of October 26, 2025, as the sun barely peeked over the horizon, a convoy of hope rolled through the rugged terrain of San Remegio, North Cebu. The Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM), in partnership with the Rotary Club of Cebu South, USC Psychology Department, and Asian Star Express Cargo Forwarding, launched Bangon North Cebu: Relief Operations for the heavily affected communities of Brgy. Sab-a and Brgy. San Miguel.
The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and determination as volunteers, led by
Immediate Past President Myra Urbiztondo and her husband Rotarian Alden Urbiztondo,
alongside President Roxene Rosario, Secretary Dorothy Borces, Director Bernadette Ponce,
Assistant Secretary Jabemarie Maquiling, and Rotarians Dianne Rallon and JR Priscillas,
gathered to bring immediate assistance to families grappling with loss and hardship.
Relief goods including food packs, drinking water, medicines, and essential supplies were
carefully distributed to hundreds of families whose homes and livelihoods were washed away
or damaged by recent calamities. Recognizing that some highland communities remain difficult to reach, the team extended efforts to reach families in these remote areas, navigating
challenging terrain to ensure no one is left without aid. The coordinated effort showcased a
powerful blend of compassion and logistics, with Asian Star Express ensuring swift transport
while the USC Psychology Department provided emotional support to affected residents.
“Relief is not just about providing goods; it’s about restoring dignity and hope in the face of adversity,” noted President Roxene Rosario. The teams worked tirelessly amid difficult conditions, reinforcing the message that no community stands alone when Rotary steps in.
Residents of Brgy. Sab-a and Brgy. San Miguel expressed heartfelt gratitude, their weary faces brightening with relief and appreciation as they received much-needed aid. The presence of RCCGM volunteers reassured many that help was not just immediate but sustained, emphasizing the club’s commitment to long-term recovery and resilience building.
“True service shines brightest in times of crisis,” said Immediate Past President Myra Urbiztondo, underscoring Rotary’s role as a beacon of solidarity. “Bangon North Cebu is a testament to the strength of community partnerships and the enduring spirit of Filipino bayanihan.”
As the relief operation drew to a close, the impact was palpable—not only in the supplies
delivered but in a renewed sense of hope and solidarity that will fuel rebuilding efforts across
North Cebu’s vulnerable barangays.
