Early morning sunshine brightened the grounds of Saint Arnold Janssen Child Development
Center in Inayawan, Cebu City, on October 2, 2025, as the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris
(RCCGM), in partnership with Visayas Medical Hospital through its Bibong Bata, Himsog na
Ugma program, officially launched Amoma sa Kaugmaon: Nourish Life, Empower Mothers, an
initiative addressing malnutrition among young children in the community. This followed a pre-
launching event held on September 12, 2025, which helped the team fine-tune activities and
gather community support.
The initiative aimed to ensure children receive essential nutrients for healthy growth while
equipping mothers with practical knowledge and tools to support their families’ well-being.
Leaders and volunteers—including Vice President Atty. Rheswi Colina, Secretary Dorothy
Borces, Past District Governor Lilu Aliño, Past Presidents Gay Marie Tiu, Mayet Lao, Mita Tan,
and Carmencita Raffiñan, Director Bernadette Ponce, and Rotarian Ludy Demecillo—joined
hands to guide the project toward meaningful impact.
Throughout the morning, interactive stations engaged parents in activities such as “Build a
Healthy Plate,” providing hands-on learning about balanced diets tailored for children.
Families were introduced to nutrition journaling, a simple but effective way to monitor daily intake and health progress. A nutritionist also delivered a brief lecture on the effects of malnutrition and the importance of early intervention, helping families understand how informed choices can safeguard their children’s growth. Simultaneously, RCCGM volunteers, guided by healthcare professionals from Visayas Medical Hospital, measured children’s body mass index (BMI), screened for nutritional risks, and distributed essential medicines. This collaborative approach highlighted the program’s holistic focus on child health, combining education, prevention, and treatment in a community-centered campaign.
“Nourishing a child is nurturing a nation’s future,” emphasized Past District Governor Aliño. “Empowered mothers become the pillars that hold up healthy families and resilient communities.”
Her statement captured the essence of the program, as laughter, curiosity, and
earnest conversations filled the center throughout the day. The impact extended beyond the
activity stations. Parents left equipped with knowledge and confidence to foster healthier
homes, while children received careful monitoring and care, taking important steps toward
improved growth and development.
Amoma sa Kaugmaon is more than a program; it is a lifeline designed to transform generational health outcomes by combining nutrition, education, and community solidarity.
Through initiatives like this, RCCGM demonstrates that meaningful, sustainable change begins with empowered families and a community committed to nurturing its youngest members.
