RC Cebu Gloria Maris Distributes Eyeglasses to Empower MCCNHS Grade 8 Students’ Learning

“Clear Vision, Bright Futures: An Optical Mission for Learning.” This was the powerful theme

guiding the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM) during their eyeglasses distribution

event held on October 9, 2025, at the Speech Lab of Mandaue City Comprehensive National

High School – Main Campus. Under the overarching theme, “Clear Eyes, Open Minds:

Empowering Learners through Sight,” RCCGM provided 67 deserving Grade 8 students with

eyeglasses to help clear visual barriers that may impede their academic progress.

Prior to the distribution, vision screenings were carefully conducted on September 11, 2025 in

partnership with the Cebu Optometric Society and Southwestern University Phinma-College of Optometry. Students identified with visual impairments received personalized prescriptions,

and those needing additional care were referred to the SWU Phinma Clinic for further

evaluation.

The event was graced by RCCGM leaders including President Roxene Rosario, Secretary Dorothy Borces, Past District Governor Lilu Aliño, Past President and Charter Member Dr. Vivian Dyhongpo, Director Bernadette Ponce, Assistant Secretary Jabemarie Maquiling, and Rotarian Ludy Demecillo. Their collective commitment reflects the club’s dedication to improving health and education in the community.

Special thanks go to the partner school beneficiary, Mandaue City Comprehensive National

High School, particularly to Principal Ma’am Emily Binggas and school teacher and RCCGM

Assistant Secretary Jabemarie Maquiling. Their excellent coordination was instrumental in

making this mission possible.

“When vision improves, the world of knowledge expands,” shared Past District Governor Lilu Aliño, underscoring the transformative effect clear sight has on learning. “Clear vision is a vital tool that enables children to reach their full academic potential,”  emphasized Dr. Dyhongpo. “The gift of sight restored is an investment in brighter futures and empowered youth.”

This project showcases how a focused health intervention can break down barriers to

education, enabling students to engage fully and confidently in their academic journeys.
