RC Cebu Gloria Maris Builds Stronger Fellowship Through Shooting Challenge

“Unity is the target, and friendship is the aim.”

The sun had just begun its climb over the lush hills of Consolacion, Cebu, as members of the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris gathered at the RJC Gun Club and Shooting Range. What unfolded was far beyond mere marksmanship—it was a vivid tapestry of fellowship, focus, and fortitude.

On September 20th at 10:00 AM, an extraordinary fellowship activity brought together Vice President Atty. Rheswi Colina, Assistant Secretary Jabemarie Maquiling, Director Bernadette Ponce, Director Floramay Gonzales, and Director Evelyn Mercader in an event marked by intense concentration and laughter echoing across the shooting range. The crisp sounds of gunfire mixed with hearty encouragement, as each member sought to hit the bullseye—both literally and figuratively.

From the very start, the energy was palpable. The setting—nestled amidst the vibrant greenery of Consolacion—offered more than just a backdrop; it became a symbol of growth and resilience. The RJC Gun Club provided top-notch facilities, allowing members to engage in an experience that sharpened not only their aim but also their bonds.

“Aiming together at a shared goal—we realized that our fellowship is our greatest strength.” This event was designed to foster deep connections beyond the weekly meetings and serve as a reminder that Rotary’s power lies in united hearts and shared visions.

Rotary Areas of Focus Highlighted

This fellowship activity beautifully embodies the Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention focus. While it may seem unconventional, this marksmanship event was a metaphor for precision, patience, and responsibility—core values in the pursuit of peace. The focus on discipline, respect, and control mirrors the qualities required to build harmonious communities and resolve conflicts.

The project also indirectly supports Community Development by strengthening interpersonal relationships, thereby enhancing collective efforts to serve Cebu and beyond. As the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris embraced this experience, they ignited a renewed spirit to serve their community more passionately.

Why This Fellowship Hits Close to Home

The Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris holds fellowship dearly—not just as a social activity, but as a foundation for impactful service. This shared experience at RJC wasn’t just about shooting targets; it was about hitting the real targets of camaraderie, trust, and mutual encouragement.

Vice President Atty. Rheswi Colina reflected, “This activity reminded us that precision in marksmanship mirrors the precision needed in our service to the community.” Assistant Secretary Jabemarie Maquiling added, “The laughter and camaraderie made every shot more meaningful—it’s in these moments that we grow stronger as a club.” Director Evelyn Mercader summarized, “Each bullet fired reflected our commitment—to each other, and to the greater good.”

As the sun dipped, casting a golden glow over Consolacion, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris members left the range not only with improved aim but with rekindled bonds and a profound lesson: “True fellowship is not just in shared moments, but in shared missions.” This story, one of precision and passion, promises that their commitment to peace, understanding, and community development will continue to blaze brightly.
