RC Cebu Gloria Maris Brings Hope to Children Fighting Cancer

In a world where hardship often feels overwhelming, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris came together to spread love, joy, and, most importantly, hope to those who need it most. This powerful mission took them to the heart of Cebu, where children, some too young to fully understand their battle, are fighting the toughest fight of all: cancer. It was there that the club brought not just supplies, but also a reminder that they are not alone in their journey.

On a sunny day, a group of compassionate Rotarians arrived at Everlasting Hope, part of the Cebu Childhood Cancer Mission PH. The setting was one of warmth, but it was the people—the children and their families—who truly illuminated the room with their resilience. Led by the dynamic President Myra Urbiztondo and her ever-supportive husband, Rotarian Alden Urbiztondo, the team set out with one clear goal: to make the day just a little brighter for these courageous children.

"We are more than just members – we are a family, and together, we bring hope to those in need." This sentiment echoed throughout the day, as a team of dedicated individuals came together to make a tangible difference. Joining the Urbiztondos were past presidents  Assistant Governor – Elect Christine Tan Ashby and Jodelyn May Seno, along with Rotarians Torifel Gumapac and JR Priscillas, who was accompanied by his Golden Topper team. The Rotary family’s collective energy made a significant impact—not just in supplies, but in the shared love they brought along with them.

"The generosity of our donors brought more than just material gifts, it was a message of hope for the children and their families."

As the team arrived at Everlasting Hope, the true essence of their visit became clear. They weren’t just delivering sacks of rice and diapers—they were delivering a message that these children were seen, heard, and loved. These small but impactful gestures gave families a moment of relief and strength, empowering them to face another day in their courageous battle.

The event was made possible by the incredible support of the club's donors, who truly embody the spirit of service. Golden Topper, Immediate Past President Gay Marie Tiu, Past Presidents Mita Caballes, Christine Racaza, Bessie Villamor, Dr. Vivian Dyhongpo, Dr. Maribel Du, Secretary Engr. Roxene Roscios, and Rotarian Hazael Urbiztondo all came together to ensure that the families received the resources they desperately needed. Their contributions provided not only material support but also a beacon of hope to the children facing life’s most difficult challenge.

This heartwarming initiative took place at Everlasting Hope, located at Topaz Street, Francisco Village, 6th Street, Happy Valley, Cebu City. It was here that the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris made a lasting impression, touching the lives of both the children and their families in ways that words can hardly capture. It was more than just an event—it was a demonstration of what it means to be part of a global network of compassion and support.

The event’s impact went beyond the donations. For every child who smiled, for every family member who felt the weight of their worries lessen, for every hand extended in kindness, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris was reminded of why service to others matters. It’s not just about giving—it’s about truly connecting, understanding the challenges others face, and offering a hand of support when it’s needed the most. In the face of cancer, these families are not alone.

“This day was a reminder that even the smallest gesture can create a ripple of hope in someone’s life.”

And with that, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris carried with them not just the supplies they brought, but the understanding that they had made a difference.

As the day came to a close, hearts full of gratitude for the opportunity to share in such a meaningful moment, it was clear: this is just the beginning. Together, as one family united by service, there are many more moments of giving, of love, and of hope to come.
