“Empowering learners is nurturing the future of our nation.”
On the morning of September 18, 2025, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM) reaffirmed its dedication to educational empowerment through active participation in the Hokkomslow Project Meeting held at the 5th Floor, Department of Education Lapu-Lapu City Division. The gathering united club leaders and key stakeholders under a shared mission: to uplift marginalized learners—specifically the children of Brgy. Soong—by strengthening partnerships and aligning programs tailored for alternative education initiatives.
Collaborative Vision for Alternative Learning
Represented by Immediate Past President and Program Chair Myra Urbiztondo, Secretary and Program Co-Chair Dorothy Borces, and Rotarian Alden Urbiztondo, RCCGM joined forces with DepEd officials including Dr. Earl Adrian Cejas, and front-line educators from Soong ALS like Mr. Gabriel Duoingay and Secretary Angelisa “Babie” Ceballos. Also present was Ms. Teresa Uy, symbolizing a synergy of passion, expertise, and community commitment.
Discussions centered on shaping a cohesive strategy supporting the Alternative Learning System (ALS)—a vital educational lifeline catering to learners outside mainstream classrooms. The dialogue emphasized sustainable solutions, community integration, and resource mobilization, aiming to bridge educational gaps and open pathways for holistic development. It is the children of Brgy. Soong who stands to gain most profoundly from this project, as educational barriers are dismantled specifically for their benefit.
“Education is the cornerstone of empowerment, and partnerships are the pillars that uphold this vision,” shared IPP Urbiztondo, highlighting the club’s unwavering commitment to community upliftment through learning.
