On June 21, 2025, members of the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands made a heartfelt journey to Barangay Dalicon in Bontoc, Mountain Province—a remote area roughly six to seven hours from Baguio City. The trip was part of their site inspection for an upcoming Global Grant project aimed at addressing a critical need in the community: access to clean water. Home to around 200 families, Dalicon has long suffered without a reliable water source—a plight that deeply moved the visiting Rotarians.
The team, composed of Dir. Richard Valdez, Sec. Naydarna, Dir. Mark, Dir. Lala, and Rtn. Rovie, undertook a challenging two-hour trek on foot through the highlands. The journey, though physically exhausting, proved to be a powerful and emotional experience. Walking through the narrow, elevated paths surrounded by rice fields and mountain terrain, the Rotarians were met by the resilience and quiet dignity of the community.
As the group reached their destination, they were warmly welcomed by residents who shared stories of daily hardships caused by the lack of water.
The realization of the community’s struggles brought many in the team to tears, fueling their resolve to make the water system project a reality. The visit solidified their commitment and underscored the urgency of their mission.
By late afternoon, rain began to fall, adding a layer of difficulty to the return trek. Despite the physical toll, the team described the day as one of the most meaningful in their service journey. Carrying not just the weight of fatigue but also the hopes of a barangay, the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands remains steadfast in its mission—to bring water, dignity, and change to Dalicon.
