Project Future in Motion: Preparing La Union for Tomorrow, Today

Communities are not transformed overnight. They are transformed through decisions that anticipate tomorrow’s needs before they become today’s challenges.

With this vision, the Rotary Club of Marikina West, under the leadership of High Impact President Katrina Frances C. Evasco, introduced an initiative that looks beyond traditional community service. Rather than responding only to immediate concerns, the club chose to invest in infrastructure that will help shape the future of Bacnotan, La Union.

At the center of the project is the installation of two BYD Electric Vehicle Chargers at the Bacnotan Public Market—a significant step toward supporting the country’s transition to clean energy and sustainable transportation. As more Filipinos embrace electric mobility, accessible charging facilities become essential to encouraging environmentally responsible travel and attracting future economic opportunities.

But sustainability is only one part of a resilient community.

Recognizing that public safety and efficient mobility go hand in hand, the Rotary Club also donated 10 WLN handheld radios to strengthen local traffic management. Clear and reliable communication allows traffic personnel to coordinate more effectively, respond quickly during emergencies, and maintain safer roads for residents and visitors alike.

What makes this initiative remarkable is that it focuses not only on solving today’s problems but on preparing for tomorrow’s possibilities. The EV charging stations encourage cleaner transportation, reduce barriers to adopting new technologies, and position Bacnotan as a municipality ready to welcome innovation. At the same time, improved communication tools enhance everyday public service, making roads more efficient and communities more connected.

The true beneficiaries of this project are not only today’s residents but also future generations. A traveler passing through Bacnotan will find a community ready for electric mobility. A traffic officer will perform duties with better coordination and greater confidence. Local businesses may one day benefit from increased visitors drawn by improved infrastructure. Small investments made today have the power to influence how a community grows for decades to come.

This is the kind of service that leaves a lasting legacy—not because of the number of items donated, but because of the opportunities they create. By embracing sustainability and innovation, the Rotary Club of Marikina West is helping build a community that is prepared, progressive, and resilient.

Under the leadership of High Impact President Katrina Frances C. Evasco, the club continues to demonstrate that Rotary is not only about meeting needs—it is about creating possibilities. It is about building communities that are ready to move confidently into the future while remaining grounded in the values of service, responsibility, and collaboration.

Because progress is not measured by how fast we move.

It is measured by how well we prepare others for the journey ahead.

Accompanying President Katrina at the project venue were Immediate Past President Kevin Micole Delfino and Ms. Krizelle Megu, Past President Johann Erickson Evasco, and Past President Rey John Fantone and Spouse Nora.
