In the quiet landscapes of Bamban, Tarlac, a powerful transformation is taking shape.
What was once a distant dream for the Aeta community is now becoming a reality. Through EDUKATU, the Rotary Club of Valenzuela brings to life the construction of the first ever high school dedicated to the youth of this indigenous community, opening doors to opportunities that were once out of reach.
Education is more than access to classrooms. It is the foundation of dignity, growth, and hope. For many Aeta families, the journey to secondary education has long been filled with barriers. Distance, limited resources, and inequality have made it difficult for young learners to continue their studies. EDUKATU rises as a response to this need, a bold step toward bridging the gap and ensuring that no child is left behind.
At the heart of this initiative is the inspiring leadership of Jennelyn Candido, whose vision and dedication turned purpose into action. Under her guidance, the project became more than a plan. It became a mission shared by partners, sponsors, and communities united by a common goal.
What makes EDUKATU even more meaningful is the story behind how it began. The funds that sparked this project were raised through the Kuratsa Dance during the club’s anniversary celebration. This was not just a performance. It was a celebration of Filipino heritage, where tradition met purpose. Every step, every movement, and every moment on that dance floor carried the hopes of building a better future. Culture became a catalyst for change, proving that when identity and service come together, something truly powerful is created.
The success of EDUKATU stands on the strength of collaboration. The Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. and the Philippine Academy of Esthetic Dentistry played vital roles as partners, extending their support to turn vision into reality. Alongside them, the RCC Family Park Walkers served as a dedicated service partner, embodying the spirit of volunteerism and compassion. Numerous sponsors and supporters also came forward, each contribution forming part of the foundation that now rises in Bamban.
This project is not just about constructing buildings. It is about building futures. It is about giving Aeta youth the chance to dream bigger, reach further, and create lives defined not by limitation but by possibility.
EDUKATU stands as a testament to what can be achieved when leadership is strong, culture is honored, and communities come together with a shared purpose. It reminds us that change does not begin with abundance, but with intention. And when that intention is fueled by service, even the smallest steps can lead to the greatest impact.
In Bamban, Tarlac, a school is being built. But more than that, a future is being written.
