In line with Rotary’s Environmental Area of Focus, Project Blue Thumb was successfully implemented on September 28, 2025, in Barangay Gawi, Municipality of Oslob, Cebu, through the collective efforts of the Rotary Club of Cebu South, the Rotaract Club of Cebu South, and students from Cebu Doctors College of Optometry.
The coral planting activity directly supported environmental preservation in a coastal community where marine ecosystems play a vital role. By undertaking hands‑on conservation work within Barangay Gawi, the project brought environmental action to the community level, reinforcing the importance of protecting natural resources that sustain coastal environments.
The active participation of Rotarians, Rotaractors, and students translated Rotary’s environmental advocacy into tangible service.
Through collaboration and shared responsibility, the initiative strengthened awareness of environmental stewardship while demonstrating how partnerships between Rotary clubs and academic institutions can contribute meaningfully to the protection of natural ecosystems.
Project Blue Thumb further reflected Rotary’s commitment to supporting sustainable communities through initiatives that safeguard the environment for present and future generations. By engaging volunteers across generations and sectors, the project underscored the long‑term value of collective action in advancing environmental sustainability at the local level.
